ROUND TABLE DEBATE

Attended by some of the
top movers and shakers
in the printing industry

“That was excellent” was the unanimous comment about the extremely successful inaugural Round Table meeting held at the Holiday Inn in Luton on 30th June.

For the first time exclusively, printers met to voice common issues in a discussion covered by “Chatham House Rules.” Which means that any comments made are un-attributable? Even saying who attended would contravene these rules. Suffice it to say that the wide format industry was represented right across the range. Peter Kiddell a Director of prism acted as independent arbiter Chair.

To say the discussion was lively would be to understate the case with one of the attendees saying “Simply to get my feelings off my chest is therapeutic.”

Sitting round the table we had industry leaders who headed up companies who, after initial caution, realised they had so much in common. People who in their day to day work were in direct competition with those across the table were speaking about techniques for improving profitability in a recession and dealing with the growing pressure on prices. A topic of incendiary proportions was print management. Very frank discussion uncovered the industry wrecking methods that some less scrupulous players practised.

Topics included “Green Issues” and how they impacted on the industry, how companies managed them and how the market perceived their efforts. Participants were happy to share their experiences in managing their companies. Three hours were allowed for discussion but it crept on to three and a half. Fortunately dinner was provided for the participants and discussions went on late in the evening. Everybody who attended wanted more of the same and prism will be organising further events later in the year. You will have to respond quickly once the date is announced as the table will be full in no time at all.
