 Richard is Chairman and Managing Director of Gardners, based in Cardiff UK. Richard founded the business in 1975, after working for 5 years as an industrial designer within a large group of companies. During this time he was responsible for three patents and these patents formed the basis of the newly formed company.
Initially concentrating on screen and flexographic printing methods he continued to develop and patent various products used across many different markets. Key developments include slip resistant finishes in baths, chemically resistant battery labels and the development of numerous adhesives used in the security and financial industries.
In 1999 he made the decision to convert the whole business over to digital, finally giving up all analogue processes in 2005. His was the first business to successfully digitally print polyethylene as an alternative to PVC and it was introduced to the market in 2004. Gardners are now one of the largest digital companies in Europe and Richard continues to develop materials, processes and software for their diverse range of customers including the London 2012 Olympics.
