Martyn Hicks - Board Member Print E-mail
MartynJoined GK Serigraphics of Leeds as a junior sales representative on January the 4th 1980, and learned the screen printing industry from the shop floor from very talented people who knew the industry from its earliest days.

At that time GKS, were the Norths leading four colour process POS printer and what we now know as a Beta site for Svecia machinery. He saw at first hand the industry move from hand tables through semi to full auto, he saw flat beds progress to cylinders and solvent inks to UV. (he even remembers the amazing Sectaspeed) In his earliest days he collected in from the advertising agencies of Manchester and Leeds paste up artwork and followed the industry evolve into digital imaging.

GKS throughout the 80’s regularly hosted open houses for European FESPA members and he recognises that the sharing of information and the friendships formed then was key to many companies growth during those years.

In early 1986 he moved into the machinery side of the industry working for Svecia in the US, as their sales manager covering the east coast, it was during that time that he oversaw the early alliances that were forged with agents of  embryonic digital machine manufacturers and the screen process machinery industry, he returned to the UK in 1989 to buy into a then small Screenprint Productions, who have since built a reputation within the industry for service, quality and innovation.

The company now employs 70 people and operates from a purpose built factory in Brighouse.

“I still maintain, despite many predictions (mostly by digital machinery manufactures) regarding screen process as a dying art, that its future remains strong. We ourselves have a significant digital prescence, but fully recognise the sheer volume, pantone colour correctness and sheer zing that a screen process machine can produce in an eight hour shift, I consider it an honour to have been asked by our industry to represent them at Fespa UK board level, and I look forward to  meeting the challenges our industry faces head on ”.

Martyn lives in Huddersfield, is married and has four children, weekends find him running a local league football team and then playing golf badly on Sunday mornings.
